Fall Cleaning and Yard Sales

So we have been cleaning out the shed to prepare for a yard sale on Sep. 12, 2009. It has been an interesting journey since much of the stuff in the shed has not been seen by human eyes since the turn of the century. I even pulled from the very corner of the attic in the shed an old piece of training equipment that i used to learn electronics with at Snow College in 1975. It was a modular training system and quite the state of the art stuff in it's time but as I was graduating from electronics there were new things like transistors and Integrated Circuits (IC's) starting to appear in electronic equipment so the college was throwing out these systems to have room to bring in things they could use to teach the newer technologies to the students. So I decided to put these pictures on my blog just to give a little glimpse at what seems that not too distant past for me and yet is totally foreign to the youth in the age of PDA's, cell phones and ipods. They don't remember that a computer that could do less than their cell phone when it came to doing simple calculations in math were so big that they filled entire rooms of office buildings. I know because I toured one of them at the U of U when I was attending college. These had different modules that you attached to the main frame and then plugged in various components to make the circut work.
There were resistors, capacitors, coils and other items that could be plugged into the back of each module to change the dynamics of the circut. And on the front of each module you could plug in the vacuum tubes that performed various functions in the circut. Vacuum tubes, now there is something that nobody knows about anymore among the youth. (well maybe if they had a dad like me that just couldn't part with them quite yet and they had seen him remembering them as he cleaned out the old junk drawers.)

Oh well, I am personally glad we are past that age because they were a pain to work with and repair. Now we don't even consider it feasible to repair most electronic gear because it had been outdated before it is even broken in for good use and so we just throw it away into the growing heaps of electronic trash. Then once in a while an old piece like this even joins the heap.

More Dog Adventures

So when you have a fun image to play with, well, you just gotta play with it. Besides I have been doing so many weddings and families I just needed a break. So I stopped near the train tracks the other day and took several shots at different angles so that I could get some that might work with the dogs.

Here is what I came up with.

They must be on their way back to southern Utah since they are going south on the tracks.

Summer nights

I can almost imagine myself up there on the hill sitting by the fires and watching the embers die down. I just hope they die down enough to not start new ones in the morning. I have a hard time going to bed (in fact I never do anymore) without having the fire cold out, but I can't do that on the mountain. However there are some interesting similarities from the morning sky with the two lights not too far from each other in our perspective and the little fires not too far from each other and appearing almost as stars on the mountain.

The Start and end of the day

SO this is how my day started today. I walked out to the car just before 6 A.M. and saw the planet and the moon fairly close agin as it was earlier this year when I photographed them real close to each other. Then when I got to work 15 minutes later and saw the usual wind standing the flag straight out from the pole I decided to photograph them again.
It was really quite beautiful.
Then as I left work and looked the same direction I saw two fires. One in the mouth of Hobble Creek canyon, the big one, and one in the mouth of Maple canyon just to the south. The following pictures I took as I occasionally pulled off the road on my way home and then the final ones are from my yard to the east of the house.

The view from my yard.

It looked like it was mostly grass that burned and burned quickly. I was interested in how the fire line seemed to go right to the edge of the ridge and stop as it climbed the hill in Maple Canyon. Most of the fire I think is pretty well stopped until the canyon winds kick in and start it to spread again.

Wild Deer??

I have driven past this group of deer a number of times while driving up to take pictures at the pond and theater above the Utah County Hospital. Yesterday I was finally ahead of schedule and had several minutes to stop and take their picture. They were even close to the road and made it that much easier except that it was hard to focus due to the trees of the apple orcard with the sunlight going through them. It was fun trying though.

I must admit this is the first time that I have had a deer stick it's tongue out at me.

Two Weddings

Well the year has passed by quickly and the two weddings are now history and in the family photo's one thing is certain. Some kids just don't want to pose for large family pictures. But it is fun having them there. We love all of them.

Perruca Family

Why do I enjoy photography?
Because of things like this where I get to work with wonderful people.
