Summer nights

I can almost imagine myself up there on the hill sitting by the fires and watching the embers die down. I just hope they die down enough to not start new ones in the morning. I have a hard time going to bed (in fact I never do anymore) without having the fire cold out, but I can't do that on the mountain. However there are some interesting similarities from the morning sky with the two lights not too far from each other in our perspective and the little fires not too far from each other and appearing almost as stars on the mountain.

The Start and end of the day

SO this is how my day started today. I walked out to the car just before 6 A.M. and saw the planet and the moon fairly close agin as it was earlier this year when I photographed them real close to each other. Then when I got to work 15 minutes later and saw the usual wind standing the flag straight out from the pole I decided to photograph them again.
It was really quite beautiful.
Then as I left work and looked the same direction I saw two fires. One in the mouth of Hobble Creek canyon, the big one, and one in the mouth of Maple canyon just to the south. The following pictures I took as I occasionally pulled off the road on my way home and then the final ones are from my yard to the east of the house.

The view from my yard.

It looked like it was mostly grass that burned and burned quickly. I was interested in how the fire line seemed to go right to the edge of the ridge and stop as it climbed the hill in Maple Canyon. Most of the fire I think is pretty well stopped until the canyon winds kick in and start it to spread again.

Wild Deer??

I have driven past this group of deer a number of times while driving up to take pictures at the pond and theater above the Utah County Hospital. Yesterday I was finally ahead of schedule and had several minutes to stop and take their picture. They were even close to the road and made it that much easier except that it was hard to focus due to the trees of the apple orcard with the sunlight going through them. It was fun trying though.

I must admit this is the first time that I have had a deer stick it's tongue out at me.

Two Weddings

Well the year has passed by quickly and the two weddings are now history and in the family photo's one thing is certain. Some kids just don't want to pose for large family pictures. But it is fun having them there. We love all of them.

Dog-gone-it Long Time No Post

So I have been doing a lot of photography this past month going some weeks every night and sometimes two on a night. Then the other times when I am not taking pictures I am working on the images and so I have not had a chance to blog. Then we went on a road trip to photograph Utah National Boy Scout Silver Beaver Recipients for 2009 and came back with a keeper of an image. I think you will agree that it looks like the dog is driving in the front seat.Well it wasn't but I just couldn't stop the urge to do a little photoshopping with some images taken the next day. The dogs were in the car in a food store parking lot in Kanab and the background image is up the Colorado River from Moab. It took some doing to get perspectives a little more accurate and it isn't to my liking yet but I don't have time to play more at the recent time. Must admit though that I had fun taking a short break to put the dogs on the road.

Celebrate, Celebrate by Having fun with fire works

We had our usual fun with the fireworks tonight to celebrate the 4th of July with our granddaughter visiting for the week with us.

We first did the sparkler in front of the camera with a long exposure and then we found some new foreworks this year that give off a real bright light just like a strobe so we had to try a few images with them as well.
