A little Fog Art

I must admit that as much as I hate to drive in fog I have is a proportionate love to photograph it's effects after the sun comes out. I took a short break the other day from work and went outside of our building in Spanish Fork, Ut and shot these works of art created by the fog and sun.

Life of a snowman

As you know, if you have followed this blog, my granddaughters, wife and I built a 6 foot snowman a few days after Christmas while they were visiting from Colorado. He was big and we were proud of him. Well this blog is for my granddaughters to see what has happened to the snowman since they have returned home. Here is a picture of Kasia just after we finished putting all of the accessories on our snowman.

This is Grandma, Kinsey and Kasia with our friend.

A couple of portraits for the scrapbook from the same day.

Then a couple days later we had another big storm and this was what nature added to our snowman.

It had been warm enogh for the days in between storms that he lost most of his teeth, eyes, etc.

Then it warmed up for several days and this is what our snowman now looks like. The poor fellow is looking pretty hungry. He needs more snow. I think that the red hat and neck warmer are working pretty well don't you?

Take a breather

Ok time to give a little change.

I left work the other night just in time to see a full moon near the flag in a beautiful setting sun lit sight. I quickly put on my telephoto lens and did a quick burst of 5 shots and put the camera away. It didn't take longer than about 3 minutes but I came up with some fun shots. This is all 5 shots. You are now wondering why I would put all 5, of the only 5 taken, up on my blog. "Can't he edit his shots?" you might ask and if it was for the purpose of merely posting the best picture you would have only seen one. However for those of you who follow this blog already know I like to give little lessons along the way. If you have ever shot the flag when the wind is blowing you will realize how difficult it is to get it completely open and standing straight out from the pole. I can time it OK sometimes and use to have to settle for what I got in the old film days, but now with digital cameras, that can shoot bursts of images in a second, you will always be able to get something pretty good images. Well I could choose from four of these and get a pretty good image but the second one is my favorite.

More from "There is nothing to photograph"

You might be saying "Enough already " but I plan to put several more images from that Saturday morning in the cold snow shoot into future blogs. One lady asked me the other day about the images that I email every day to 196 people if I go out and shoot them each day or how I come up with enough photos to keep sending a new one each time. I told her that they come from days like this shoot when I go out and do 300 to 400 images at a time. I don't ever send all of them (even rarely more than just a few of them) but I do use them. I always keep my camera with me when I can so that if a moment presents itself I can take more. It doesn't matter either where you are because you can always find something. I need to do this same shot four times a year. Actually I probably have.

Another one of my favorite subjects is part of the Wasatch range of mountains in my back yard to the north.

And this is my favorite mountain that I have taken hundreds of pictures of over my 34 years of living in it's shadow. It is due East of me. I even have several hundred images of the two major times that it has been on fire over the last 15 years or so.

Another one that I have pictures of during the four seasons. I love to photograph it because I know that I won't have to be wringing out the clothes every Saturday morning as I did many times during my youth. I would much rather take pictures of it when compared to having help Mother do the Saturday wash in it.

Finally my trees. I planted them about 18 years ago and have photographed them regularly as they have been growing up into mighty trees. They hold a lot of memories of kids jumping over them in the dark while playing Night Games to watching me watching them grow.
