Reurn of the Elk

Years ago there were over 200 head of elk
that came down from the mountain during a
rather severe winter.
Well due to heavy snow this year they have come again.

So I hiked up to photograph them.
Unlike when they came last time there are
now a number of homes and I loved this
tree and flag at one of the homes.

The mountains were so pretty and the sun
was setting in the West giving them an
early evening glow.
The trees were all heavily flocked
from yesterdays snow storm.

I guessed that there were around 20 head of elk.
Far fewer than the other year.

They started to get a little nervous as I got closer
and were keeping a wary eye no me.

I enjoy watching them lift their heads up
to watch me.

I could only see two spike bulls in the group,
so the older ones are not too worried about the snow yet.

On my way home I took a few more
photos as I always do.

4 Canadian geese were flying overhead so I
captured a few shots of them as well.

The sun setting gave the clouds some beautiful highlights

This pup wanted me to be scared
but in the end he turned tail and ran off.

The elk turned their attention to hikers
on the trail after I was gone.
